Healthy recipes: salad as a side dish

I am now more or less (ok, less..) close to my ideal weight but that doesn't mean I'm going to start eating junk again. From now on, hopefully for the rest of my life, I'll remember how hard it is to lose those pounds and how i never want to go through that again! So, even if now I'm not exercising for 2 hours a day as I used to (I really pushed myself for a few months), I still have to find some way to maintain my weight. Well, since I definitely can't go back to an unhealthy lifestyle, I decided to stick to what I'm now used to: eating healthy. So in the last few months I learned that eating a simple salad as a side dish can allow me to have a nice juicy stake as the main dish ;) The trick is simple, you can have a nice steak for lunch or dinner (many calories) and a simple sala...

Healthy recipes – grilled chicken with peas

I know I already mentioned a recipe with the exact same ingredients, chicken and peas, but this time I decided to change the recipe just a little bit. Well, maybe not a little bit but more. Here's how: You need: chicken breast peas 1 spoon of olive oil half a glass of milk (3 oz or 100 ml) dill salt and other spices How to cook it: First, boil the peas if necessary (as previously mentioned, mine are usually fresh from the... freezer)  Heat up a pan with the olive oil and throw in the peas. Cover the pan with a lid and let them cook for a few minutes. When they are nice and soft, add the spices (I added a bit of salt, pepper and dill) and the small glass of milk. Cover the pan and let the peas cook for a few more minutes. Meanwhile, grill the chicken. On

Well, I'm a big fan of cheese. When I found out how many calories cheese has I wanted to cry. I couldn't believe it, I ate a lot of cheese every single day. I think that my answer to "what's your favorite food?" question is CHEESE. However, sacrifices must be made in order to be 'skinny' so I found a solution: I shall eat less cheese. Also, I shall look at the label before buying any. With that said, I have found that there are a few types of cheese that are not that awful when it comes to calorie count: cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, string cheese and others. Stop it right there :P String cheese is currently the one thing never missing from my fridge. And it's perfect for preparing grilled cheese sandwiches! You need: 2 slices of bread sliced string cheese a spoon...

Well, it's Thursday and, as you might have noticed, Thursday is recipe day :) This time, I'll try to explain how to make yet another chicken based meal: chicken and sauteed peas. This time, instead of chicken breast, I used chicken legs. Without the skin, of course. You need: 2 chicken legs (no skin) 6 ounces of peas (150-200 grams) a little butter some dill spices to your taste How to cook: Well, the first thing I do is boil the meat. This way everything will be done a lot faster. So, boil the chicken legs. Meanwhile, you can boil the peas too, if necessary. I usually use frosted peas so I boil them for 3-4 minutes. The next thing I do is separate the meat from the bone. Go ahead and take it all off the bone. Now, melt the butter in a pan on the stove.

Healthy recipes – macaroni and veggies

I have to admit I'm a big fan of pasta, especially mac and cheese... but we all know how bad pasta or macaroni are for our diet. They are full of carbs and, unfortunately, depending on what type of pasta you use, you may add bad carbs to your diet. Well, to prevent that from happening, you can use the whole wheat type. It tastes about the same and it's a healthier choice. Now that we have that settled, there's another problem: every time I eat macaroni or pasta, I'm hungry half hour later. I could eat an entire bag of cooked pasta... and still I'd be hungry after a short while. I found a solution to that too: you can combine the pasta with veggies! Better yet... REPLACE half of the pasta on your plate with veggies. Here's how: You need: half a cup of macaroni  half a
