Online and breathing
Well, it’s been almost 3 months but the blog is up and running.
Weird thing, i keep getting comments. Most of them are spam, of course, but lots of comments are spam in another form. Now, what the heck is that?
I understand wanting to promote your site but.. come on! I do that too but i comment with a relevant name when i have something to say, i try to say more than “thanks for posting”.
Is this a new form of spam? ’cause if it is, it’s really annoying.
It’s flattering to have hundreds of comments and have the number growing constantly so i figured i could write a small guide to comment writing.
Tips for writing nice comments:
- First things first. Let people know you’re online
You have a website and want people to know about it.
By commenting on blogs, websites or writing in forums you let’s me know you exist too. I might have not known you exist so by deciding to be active online you can easily let me know about you or your website.
- Attract others to your website
Try to write something on the subject. Maybe you also have a point of view- share it.
Writing a comment related to the post makes me think you read it, liked or disliked it and you have something to say. That matters to me so I might also visit your website because you might have something interesting and worth visiting. Comments like “Great post” or “Nice info” makes me think you didn’t even bother to read anything so why should I bother to visit your website?
- Don’t manipulate anyone
Be discreet. Attract others to your site by being polite, not by force.
You are a person, you have a name. Use your name or nickname for posting. Using names like “my-entire-website-name” or “this-is-what-i-do-online” makes me delete your comment, it looks like spam. There is a box in which you put your nickname and a box for putting your website. Use them for what they are or I will surely mark you as spam.
Summing up, letting people know you are online by good on-the-subject comments, you might attract a few visitors. This is what commenting to promote your website is all about, writing quality comments so people would be attracted to you for your work.

I agree with the post. Some of them are spamming. Spammers are so annoying.
i have the same experience as you on othwe website. i donnot know the standard of spam.sharing the thought of others and express what i think is a spam?
No, winttery, it’s messages like “click on this link” or “thanks” or messages that have nothing to say about what others wrote that I consider spam.
It’s really annoying that someone put some thought into writing an article and others come to say things like these just to have their link shown.
I agree with you aadryanaa. Spammers do anything for there site to be posted as a link. Spammers are not just annoying but they destroy the reputation of a specific website.
Spammers are a pain! If people would follow your suggestions the internet would be alot cleaner and friendlier. You said you’ve been going for 3 months? Good Job! Keep it and your blog will continue to grow!
I get tons and tons of fake blog comments that are Spam – my favorite are the ones in obvious broken English that don’t make any sense what-so-ever. Maybe I should add a section to one of my blogs that is a Hall-Of-Fame for the ridiculous spam comments I get. I could probably code something up so that people can add their highlights as well!
i am very happy to see your reply.i know the “spam”now. i agree with you.
@Robert.. LOL. You have a brilliant idea there. Maybe i will it as well, i’m sure spammers would aware of that.
Thanks for the tips on how to write good comments.
I hate spammers, My site gets spam every 24 hours and some of the spam has obscene words.
Actually I have learn one thing from spammers. They first look at the template of the website. If its professional looking then they will not mess your site but if it isn’t then you are bound to get spam.So its better to have a professional looking website.
Readers place comments for a variety of reasons. Some are interested in the topic, some are online friends interested in interacting and some are spammers. Generally, I’ve found a good balance for my personal blog. I provide a do-follow link, but I require commenters to include their name and make a comment that is reasonable to the subject. Let’s face it, anyone leaving a comment like “nice post” or those like it should be whacked. Well thought out, relevant comments should be rewarded and others should not.
I am agree with you that we should use our real name but you are also apprise about this fact that without keyword how we can promote our site. If you have any suggestion so please tell me.
It really depends on the blogger’s discretion whether to consider the comment as spam or not.
For example, new and spammy looking sites which may or may not exist in a few months time, and outsourced comments which are very short and don’t look like they spent much time on your site….also illegal sites, all these are what I consider spammy.
i am very happy to see your reply.i know the “spam”now. i agree with you.
i agree with the second point you make.. i didn’t knew that ” nice post” has another meaning in it…
I really like your post. I too have been receiving all kinds of jibberish spam that I just delete so what’s the point? You said it very well and I will definitely be keeping it in mind when I do post on someone’s site. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
I appreciate this post, addressing comments head-on. I have been struggling with this issue too. I never thought to put a post on “comments”, which makes so much sense. At least visitors are put on notice to add value. Thank you for a great idea, and you express your concerns very well.
