How do i manually create my xml sitemap?

xml sitemapI’ve been trying since yesterday to manually create my xml sitemap so that it doesn’t show a list of links, but my actual posts. I saw examples but i still can’t find a way to make it look like the RSS.

I changed my settings in my dashboard but nothing has changed within the sitemap. Still shows a long list of links…

I’m confused.

Your not using the plugin for google xml sitemap? That’s what I use.

i am, but my sitemap looks like a long list of links. I need to make it look like this:

    < ?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    < xml >
    < site >
    < date>2008-10-28 12:02:42< /date >
    < name >site-name.com< /name>
    < link >http://link-to-site.com< /link>

    …… etc.

I think it is better to install some plugins than creating your xml manually. It will help you to save time and effort. I hope my comment helps.

I suggest that you search google for automatic xml site map generator.

If you really want to manually do your own sitemap perhaps you look into this:

    https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/protocol.html#sitemapXMLFormat

    Hope it works…

try using a plugin, seek for xml sitemap or sitemaps on the wp plugins directory. Manually creating them is quite a bad idea

That’s what I would suggest too. To save on the time and trouble of setting up your xml sitemap manually, why not just search for a plug-in that would be able to do it for you in a fraction of the time. By manually creating them, you’d also leave room for more mistakes versus if they were automatically generated.

The Google sitemap generator works great. I know it is confusing to work with xml for the first time, so the automated tools are a big help. Were you able to get it straightened away?

If you really want to create it semi manually then you could paste it into one of the thousands of xml site map generators that are available on Google, just do a search. The best way is to use a plugin like the others have said.
